Holy Plot Twists by Amanda Schaefer

Holy Plot Twists by Amanda Schaefer

I have always been a storyteller.

But I haven't always known why our stories are so important. As a child, I recall asking my grandparents to share memories from their youth. My Grandad once told me about the peanut gallery. He explained that it wasn't just a saying, but an actual place —a section of the theater where those who didn't have as much money sat. Patrons from that section would hurl peanuts at performers if they didn't like the show. Over time, the term evolved to describe any group of people who give unwanted advice or criticism. As a child, I found this history fascinating. I've always loved discovering the little details behind the scenes by pulling back the curtain to take a look at the why, not just the when.

In addition to loving all the details of a good story, there's something beautiful about connecting with others and listening well when they share with us. Every story is powerful, necessary, and unique.

Before I met Jesus, I expressed myself through poetry and prose. However, it was only after discovering the love of Jesus Christ that I realized I had a story that needed to be shared. The love of God for us and the purpose of each life He created are the elements of the best story ever told.

In my new book, Holy Plot Twists: God is Still Writing Your Story, I draw on the love I have found to engage with the reader. This book is an extension of my podcast, in which we explore life stories from childhood to the present. In addition to sharing my story, I provide a journaling section for readers to delve deeply into their own stories.

During my years as the global podcast host of A Cup of Gratitude, I have learned that intentionally and carefully reviewing our past is essential. Looking back with God produces healing, growth, and strength.

I wrote this book for every person. My hope and dream are that every reader will identify with my vulnerability and be willing to spend honest time with God, exploring the journal section to discover treasures in their own story.

I invite you to step into the sacred storyline of your life. I invite you to uncover how God has been present in your journey, especially in the moments that didn’t go as planned.

Our stories are about how we go out into the world we were created for, connecting and building community. We are designed to connect. We are created to walk with one another. And greater yet, our stories can carry the story of God.

For me, success isn't about how many books I can sell; success is knowing that someone can read a book I wrote and gain a deeper understanding of the God who created them and loves them dearly.

Holy Plot Twists reminds the reader that whether you are navigating pain, seeking purpose, or simply wondering where God is in your story, you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to turn the page.
