My Friend Writes Podcast: Season 1 ~ Episode 1
Hope Ignited: Set Free from the Grip of Anxiety and Depression

There are some conversations that remind me why this work matters in the first place… this one is the beginning.

In the very first episode of My Friend Writes Podcast, I’m sitting down with Maria Morgan, author of Hope Ignited: Set Free from the Grip of Anxiety and Depression.

Maria and I met through our publisher— two writers on separate journeys toward publication. We are currently working together during the launch of her book, and through the reading, editing, planning, and dreaming, we have become friends. When you work closely with someone as you bring a story to life, conversations naturally shift. We find ourselves talking about family and friends, about the things that matter beyond the page. And there, in the middle of writing, life, and everything in between, she often asks a question that stops me every time…

“How can I pray for you today?”

That kind of sincerity changes a relationship. It creates a different kind of space. And before long, you realize you are no longer simply working together… you are witnessing someone who shows up with honesty, humility, and a deep love for others.

Maria is a wife, a mom to an adult daughter, and now a mother-in-law. She’s also a devoted pet parent to a playful pup and a cat who often claimed a spot on her laptop while this book was being written. Her life is full in the most grounded, everyday ways.

She has been writing for years, including a Bible study for women and a children’s series that gently teaches character and truth. But this book comes from a deeper place.

In our conversation, Maria shares the story behind Hope Ignited. Not just what the book says, but what she walked through to write it. You’ll hear about the seasons that shaped her, the struggles she faced with anxiety and depression, and the turning points that led her toward healing.

It is an honest conversation. One marked by struggle, yes, but even more by hope, healing, and the steady presence of God.

If you’ve ever wondered what writing a book reveals about a person… this is a beautiful place to begin.

I think you’ll find a piece of yourself in this conversation, too.
